History of Zeta Mu
 

· Zeta Mu received its Charter on Dec 11, 1965 at 10.34 p.m. This one moment represented the combined efforts of 146 men working together for seven and half years. They organized the local, Sigma Phi Alpha. The Zeta Mu Chapter of Sigma Chi began with a membership of 55 strong. The installation and initiation of the new brothers was conducted by Sigs from Murray State, University of Kentucky, Centre, Vanderbilt, University of Tennessee and the University of Chattanooga. The Installation Banquet of Zeta Mu Chapter was given at the Bowling Green Country Club.

· There have been over 840 Brothers initiated since 1965.

· Over $195,000 has been contributed to charities. Including Wallace Children Home and The Miracle Children Network, which is the Sigma Chi’s National charity. Additionally, the chapter over the last 35 years has contributed countless community service hours to local community programs and charities, including United Way, Potters Children Home, JC’s, and Habitat for Humanity. The Chapter has raised over $7,000, in the last three years,to form a scholarship in the name of a Chris Martin, a Brother who passed on to The Chapter Eternal. This scholarship helps support not only a Scholarship given to Barren County High School graduating Senior, but also to scholarships for Brothers that have excelled academically each semester. The chapter received the Community Service Award presented by Western last year for the recognition of these achievements.

· The chapter has had a tradition in both athletics and academics. The chapter has won the Campus All Sports Award for the last 15 of 18 years. The other 3 years they placed 2nd. It has consistently ranked in the top third in Academics and last year received the Scholarship Award for their success from Western.

· 1971 the current Chapter House at 1215 College Street was purchased. The house was built in 1905 and approximately 18 brothers live in the house each semester. For over 25 years Alumni in the community have served on the House Corporation Board directing and providing support to this chapter. The house was renovated in 1982.
